The Griebel family has a long history on Neuwerk and has been deeply rooted on the island for generations. The Hotel Nige Hus is a project close to the heart of the family, which they run with great attention to detail and a sustainable approach. In addition to the unique location and the special atmosphere, the guests of the Nige Hus appreciate above all the warm hospitality of the Griebel family and their team. Whether at the cozy breakfast in the winter garden of the hotel or at the social gathering at the bar of the Anker – here you feel immediately welcome and at home.
The Griebel family has lived on Neuwerk since the 18th century and the Anker was opened in 1974. In the meantime, the restaurant has become an integral part of island life and it is hard to imagine life without it. Lüder and Anneliese Griebel had their hands full coping with the first difficult years and can now look proudly at what the former Anker has become.
During the winter months, when all the businesses on Neuwerk are closed, renovations, additions and conversions have been and continue to be carried out. This should answer one or two questions about what the islanders do in winter… But despite all the modernizations, the unique charm and history of the house have always been preserved. The second generation, Christian Griebel and his wife Svenja, came to the island in 1997 to join their parents’ business.
There was not enough space for three generations, so two guest rooms and two group rooms became the Nige Hus with double rooms, suites and an apartment for the young family with their two children. Together they managed the restaurant and the hotel and realized many new projects. From the idea to offer the guests something special and unique, Christian Griebel developed and built the Tüdelüt and a little later the Wattoase was added. He has been the owner since 2012, but can still count on the active support of his parents.
Christian Griebel is not only the owner of the Hotel Nige Hus, but also the island chairman of Neuwerk. Together with his wife Svenja and his family, he is committed to ensuring that Neuwerk remains a unique place worth living in in the future. This is also reflected in the philosophy of the family business. For example, regional products are preferred and energy is supplied by renewable energies. The rooms were also designed sustainably and furnished with ecological materials.

We spent six days on Neuwerk with our child and dogs. We felt incredibly comfortable at Nige Hus. The breakfast was excellent with a wide selection, the staff exceptionally friendly (this really deserves special mention – you can tell everyone there enjoys their work!), and the menu at the Anker restaurant was great (fresh, not just traditional food!), even including vegan options – we hadn't expected that. There was also a lovely selection of cakes in the afternoon. The tractor pick-up and transport to the ferry for hotel guests was unexpected and absolutely fantastic! The island is wonderful. We'll definitely be back! Our elderly parents in the next room were also very happy. A kettle and a refrigerator in the room would have been nice, but we understand the environmental considerations/idea behind having them in the hallway. On the terrace, you have to be okay with the smokers, of whom there were surprisingly quite a few – our only slight disappointment 😉
A home away from home on Neuwerk, wonderful hosts and superb service staff, great restaurant – we had 4 fantastic days on the island.
Erholung pur
Wir hatten Schwierigkeiten mit der Bahn ,konnten daher erst einen Tag später anreisen. Es war überhaupt kein Problem . Die Chefin und das Personal waren alle total nett. Das essen ist reichhaltig und super lecker. Wir haben auch die Sauna ausprobiert, ein Wahnsinns Erlebnis. Diese Fass Sauna ist echt süß. Auch der Außenbereich mit der Ausruhblase ist klasse . Da konnte man direkt von der Liege in den Sternenhimmel schauen. Das werden wir auf jedenfall noch einmal machen.
Wir kommen gerne wieder
Das Familienzimmer hat uns am Besten gefallen. 2 Duschen im Bad, WC extra, die bequemen Schlafkojen, Kinderbetten sind vorhanden, der Wellnessbereich war super, gepflegter Garten, Fahrräder sind im Preis inbegriffen , sehr gutes Frühstücksbuffet. Schöne kleine Insel um für ein paar Tage mal zu entspannen.
We had a wonderful long weekend on Neuwerk at the "Nige Hus." Our room was very comfortably furnished, spacious, and offered a breathtaking view of the island. We felt very much at home thanks to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were also grateful for the assistance with our arrival and departure. We ate at the hotel's restaurant, "Zum Anker," and have become completely enamored with their fried potatoes. 😉 We would love to come back again.
Kommen jedes Jahr mit der ganzen Familie und und fühlen uns super aufgehoben ! Hier kann man sich richtig gut erholen vom dem Alltagsstress ! Ich bin immer sehr traurig wenn ich wieder zurück muss . Freue mich aber jetzt schon auf den Juni ( eine Woche ist leider immer zu kurz ) Vielen , vielen Dank für den guten Service ! Es passt alles !!!!!

Wir haben uns in dem gemütlichen Zimmer sehr wohl gefühlt und das Frühstück war echt prima.
Immer wieder
Tolles Haus, super freundliches Personal, gutes nordisches Essen und einfach eine wunderschöne Location und Insel. Lauft auf dem grünen Deich entspannt einmal um die Insel. Erlebt bei jedem Treffen ein Gefühl von Nachbarschaft, mit einem freundlichen Moin Moin, erlebt Freiheit bei einer Wattwagenfahrt und lasst Euch den Wind um die Nase wehen. Und verpasst nicht Fischbrötchen, Bierchen und Urlaubsstimmung am Leuchtturm.
Auszeit
Das Hotel, dort ist alles was man braucht. Personal sehr nett und hilfsbereit.

Wer eine ruhigen, naturnahen und erholsamen Urlaub sucht, ist auf der Insel Neuwerk gut aufgehoben
Es war ein ungewöhnlicher Urlaub, der schon mit der Anreise auf die Insel mit einem Wattwagen begann. Familie Kriegel hatte alles gut geplant, wir wurden freundlich begrüßt und wir fühlten uns sofort wie zu Hause. Ob Frühstück, der Snack zwischendurch oder das Abendessen, alles war so, wie man es sich wünscht. Egal worum es ging, die Menschen im Hotel Nige Hus begleiteten unseren wundervollen Urlaub immer mit einem Lächeln. Wir kommen wieder.
Außergewöhnlich
Sehr schönes Zimmer, große Garten. Sehr ruhige Lage. Alle Wünsche wurden freundlich erfüllt. Fahrräder zu leihen war top, denn nach der langen Wattwanderung erleichterte es uns sehr, die Insel zu erkunden.
Everything was wonderful! Top-notch service, great rooms, and something to suit every budget. A very cozy restaurant with a cozy pub-style makes every evening a pleasant one. 🙂
